“Baby It’s Cold Outside” Is Not About the #MeToo Movement

“Baby It’s Cold Outside” – What the song is truly about!

I’m a victim of the #MeToo Movement but when people start going crazy and eliminating classic music from an era long gone, I think it’s time to look at the accusations that we are throwing out and determine if they truly represent the movement. Perhaps we need to evaluate our own motivations for making the accusations as well.

The song, “Baby It’s Cold Outside” was written in the 1940s and is NOT about the #MeToo movement.

It is about a couple, who are having a conversation deliberating how to navigate the social pressures of their time.  Social pressures, that I must add, did not permit women to be sexually active or to make decisions based on their own wishes and desires.  Instead, they are fearful of any repercussions or fall out from spending one evening of passion with a man.

This was an era when couples were not permitted to live together before taking vows of matrimony.  This was a period in our history before birth control when ladies were ostracized as whores if they were ever caught waking up in a man’s bed without a gold band around their left finger.  Even boarding houses and college dorms had very strict rules to protect a girl’s reputation.

The woman in the song is truly pondering the effects of following her heart.  Good for her!! I hope she stayed and told the neighbors to kiss her cute little behind.

Oh I hope so!
